Matthew 5:14-16

14“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

camp was quite a blast.

kudos to the camp committee, to bre the camp commandant, and isaac the camp chairman, good job guys!

the games were fantastic, and i thought the message by rev. bernard chao was clear, and the candlelight exercise on the first night’s theme talk was really useful to illustrate the points he was trying to get across. we were all given unlit candles, and we were to get candlelight, or rather, a flame from the source, which was rev chao with a lighter. we were in mostly darkness, and when someone came with their candle lit, we were supposed to ask ‘got a light?’ and then they would point us to get light from the source. what happened was some people just spread the light by giving a flame to their friends with the unlit candles, since some of us did not get our candles lit anyway due to time contraints and a long queue in front of rev chao. well the lights were representative of our assurance of salvation, and it was interesting to note that the emotions felt by the people with lit candles were reflective of the emotions that we as Christians should be feeling with Christ in our hearts, with joy and assurance that we have a light in the darkness. another thing that could be drawn from this object lesson was that it was exactly the way that we should be, passing on that light in our lives by sharing the gospel of Christ, which we discussed over the next day. the strong winds blowing many lit candles out also had significance in the sense that our Christian walk will always be fraught with obstacles and difficulty, and the decision to follow Christ is not one that will lead to us leading smooth sailing lives, hence the need of renewal and encouragement between fellow brothers and sisters in Christ in the form of sharing the flame, re-igniting blown out candlelights. lastly, the time limit factor also reminds us that the day and time of the second coming of Christ is unknown, which brings us to the need of urgency in sharing the gospel. nobody knows when He is coming back, and it might be tomorrow for all we know. if it is, then so many of our dear friends and loved ones would be unsaved, and what regret we would feel then. it is something that is eternal, and something that cannot be changed. share the gospel, share your testimony, share Christ, with boldness and in faith, that this may be a reminder to us Christians, that we may walk the talk and truly be a light to the world.

the second night’s structured activity was great as well, and effective (kudos to derek who put in a lot of effort into planning it).  and who can forget benchball, a variant of captains ball, with the same rules applied except that every member on the team who scores goes up on the bench so the chances of scoring increases as there are more catchers to get the ball, although there would be less people playing on the court. it was fun, and the games were great in helping to aid team bonding, especially for people who are more introverted and reserved. overall, it was a great camp, and one thing i learnt is that we can be more prepared, for me at least, with the responsibility of being a group leader. thanks goes to my adult leaders, amelia and daolin, who contributed much to quiet times and discussions when i needed more input and expounding, especially since some were non-believers and the younger ones were quiet and weren’t as keen to contribute their ideas. i am experiencing some withdrawal symptoms, but well it does happen, and it will pass. oh. and who can forget baramp baramp, umchichi umchi, tukituki tukituki and tongkat tongkat. haha. its a great game for breaking ice and inducing laughter. ask me about it (: thanks to isaac who introduced it. and many other great memories. like seeing a starlit sky in singapore for the first time. that was great. at that moment i remembered the wonderful kunming night sky. and moonie’s post about the stars having a carnival up there (:

oh well. 1 more month of freedom. haha. which i must fully enjoy.
